In early ages, no one drinks milk. And the first people to regularly consume milk were early farmers or those people who lived with domesticated animals, like cows. As years goes by, commercialized milk with different types have finally entered the market – and lots of people are accustomed to it.

Everyone has been used to drinking milk at any time of the day, but have we ever thought if these are suitable for the human body? Is milk good or bad for us? Hold on as we enter and unfold the untold secrets of dairy milk.

1. Lactose Intolerant – approximately 65% of the total population are considered lactose intolerant, meaning that they are not able to digest lactose, and may also result in nausea, cramps, gas, bloating and diarrhea.

2. Cholesterol – cow’s milk contains a high amount of cholesterol, approximately 24 mg per serving which is bad for the heart. Whole milk contains the highest amount of dietary cholesterol compared to reduced-fat milk (see below). It also has 150 calories and 8 grams of fat per cup, 8.5% nonfat milk solids, and 88% water. In addition to its high-fat content (3%), whole milk is high in natural proteins, vitamin D, and calcium.

3. Saturated Fat – comes from dairy products including milk. A single serving of such already contains more than 20% of the allowable limit. High intakes might result in obesity and heart diseases.

4. Antibiotics – these animals are being fed up various antibiotics for them to keep healthy and to pump milk. And an overuse of such can cause an increase of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

5. Weight Gain – based on a study, an increase in milk intake resulted in a weight increase. It was backed up by another study that milk cannot be considered as a good replacement for sodas, which are mainly caused by milk components.

6. Milk Allergies – its risks are more dangerous compared to being a lactose intolerant; these may cause vomiting or anaphylaxis.

7. Acne – as mentioned, cows are being treated with various antibiotics and vitamins that can affect their milk supply. And drinking such can cause hormonal imbalance, which may lead to acne.

8. Cancer – high intake of milk is linked to an increased risk for breast and prostate cancer due to the high amounts of hormones injected into lactating cows for their milk production.

9. Environmental hazard – dairy cows produced 120 pounds of waste every day, including greenhouse gases, and some are not properly disposed.

10. It is not intended for humans – cow’s milk is intended for their calves solely and its nutritional content does not fit for humans.
